Our Story

Be Advisory was founded in 2017 by Brisbane-based accountant, Jessica Hertrick. Over the last 3 years, we’ve worked with 100+ clients, from tradies and freelancers, to allied health professionals and financial planners. In that time, we’ve submitted 2500+ tax forms.

In 2020, Jessica launched our umbrella brand, The Be Group, which marked a new season for Be Advisory as a business advisory firm focused on consulting, tax, and accounting services. Our partner company is Be Accounted (for bookkeeping services).

Along the way, we’ve built up partnerships with a handful of trusted bookkeepers, financial planners, brokers, and other businesses so that our clients get a complete, streamlined solution to all their business needs.

Launching and Growing Hammer & Shine

We’ve worked with Joe from Hammer & Shine for a number of years now. With our help and advice, Joe has gone from strength to strength to start and grow his fencing business. Since we began working with Joe, he’s refinanced his house, acquired a QBCC license, bought a new ute, and built a small team. It’s been a huge transformation and we’re excited to see what comes next for Hammer & Shine.

Transforming Step By Step Basketball’s Business Model

Shaun from Step By Step Basketball is something of an American Basketball fantastic. We worked with Shaun on things like breakeven points, planning for purchases, how much funds to allocate for purchases, and how to set pricing. With our support, he transformed his business model from one-on-one coaching to a gym membership, giving him consistent income and better cash flow.

Bringing a Dream to Life with Inside Out Therapy

Melissa, an occupational therapist, was originally one of our individual tax return clients. She mentioned her dream to become self-employed way down the track. She engaged us as her business advisory firm and we helped her connect the dots and get set up with her own premises just months later!

Wiping Out ATO Debt and a Big Accounting Error

We were contacted by a bookkeeper who was concerned for her earthmoving client who had a $271K debt with the ATO. She realised something was off with the books, so got us to take a look. We found an error made by the accountant, which brought the debt down to $61K. But since the ATO had charged $68K of interest, we might possibly get that down to a $7K refund!

Tax Accountant and Business Advisor

Jessica is a small business specialist who loves helping everyday people. Business is in her blood, as the daughter of a bricklayer and granddaughter of a farmer. After finishing her Bachelor of Business & Accounting in 2014, she enrolled in an MBA and expects to graduate in 2021. In 2015, after working in traditional accounting firms, she started The Be Group to provide modern, real-world tax and accounting services for small businesses.
